White Architect’s psychiatric clinic in Greenland awarded at World Architecture Festival

In the category “Future Projects – Health” White Architects was awarded for their psychiatric clinic in Nuuk, Greenland at World Architecture Festival in Amsterdam.

The work for a new psychiatric clinic in the city was initiated by a steering group on behalf of the Greenlandic Health Service. The patients come from both Nuuk and the entire coast. The new clinic balances calm, healing and safe architecture, the Greenlandic landscape and the existing buildings. With classic materials and colors from Nuuk – where hospitals are traditionally yellow – an obvious landmark is created along the dramatic coast.

Jury citation: “The only facility for the whole island dealing with a range of psychiatric disorders. Climate change is being addressed. An important institution in the community with the architecture respecting the environment.”

Responsible architect: Jenny Mäki.

White was also awarded in the category “Future Project – Culture” for the design of The New GoDown Arts Center, a development of Nairobi’s and Kenya’s biggest hub for current and innovative culture.
