Scissored shadow monsters – when the turn of the millennium with its recession hit all industries hard, Carl Fredrik Holtermann started working with the negative space. “I was sitting on the veranda of my parent’s summer house, cutting paper and feeling down. I noticed how, unlike when I draw, cutting gave me a quick and clear result. Suddenly I had a whole heap of demons.” A folded paper forms the basis for the symmetry of the scissors and it goes quickly, “a bit like Emil in Lönneberga when he carves old men,” says Holtermann.
