The new issue of Form: The surface is everything!
In recent years, sustainability has emerged as the most important issue in the world – and, subsequently, in the design world. After a record breaking global heat wave it is obvious that things will have to change. During the Salone del Mobile in Milan, the partaking companies competed in presenting the most environmental products, as did the young newcomers in the side exhibitions. There was a lot of greenwashing going on, as always – but what really struck us is that this one-eyed focus on sustainability meant that the aesthetic aspects of design were more or less ignored. And who needs ugly sustainable products? They certainly won’t survive the natural selection.
To discuss this dilemma, we met up with Swedish design stars Eero Koivisto, Alexander Lervik and Marie-Louise Hellgren to discuss the relation between ethics and aesthetics. Also in the first autumn issue of Form: A long report on how designers can use AI in their work, an interview with upcoming design star Gustaf Westman and a tribute to the design group Droog thirty years after its foundation!
Form Magazine 4/2023 is available online and in stores on September 19.
