Central public gardens form the social heart of the 155,000 m2 urban masterplan Humlestaden outside Gothenburg, Sweden – designed to reframe city life through a green lens.
Humlestaden, which translates to “hops city,” references the local history as the site of one of Sweden’s largest breweries. Prior to the brewery, the area was dedicated to local agriculture, home to commercial gardens and fruit orchards. Construction on Humlestaden will begin in 2022, slated for completion in 2024.
Architecture studio Precht has developed a fully modular building system, which is prefabricated offsite and flat-packed delivered by trucks. The residents produce their own food in vertical farms. It’s an attempt to reconnect people in the city with the process of growing food.

Suur-Merijoki Manor in Viipuri Province was a Finnish Art Nouveau masterpiece, a ‘total work of art’ that became one the most famous Finnish homes of its era. The exhibition at Museum of Finnish Architecture reawakens the former glory of the perished manor designed by the young architect trio Herman Gesellius (1874–1916), Armas Lindgren (1874–1929) and Eliel Saarinen (1873–1950).

Snøhettas new project, a Museum Quarter in Bolzano, will provide magnificent views in the landscape of surrounded Virgl Mountain in northern Italy. The new cultural area will include South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology and the Municipal Museum of Bolzano, along with the planned Bolanzo car structure which is also designed by Snøhetta. The roof of the building aims to serve as a terrace for public space for different activities like open-air markets and concerts. If built the museum will also be the new home for Ötzi the iceman.
